When Remothered started off as a Clock Tower spiritual remake or tribute, she was loosely based on the villainous character Mary Barrows, originally, her name was Mary 'Rose' Reed, a thirty-seven year old woman from Stockholm who moved to Norway to work as a tutor and guardian at an orphanage. However the version was scrapped and rewritten to a thirty year old woman her Rosemary Reed, with her villainous role unchanged.

When the game went into hiatus in 2012, the whole concept was rewritten and changes to the character were made. Rosemary was now made the protagonist in the new triology, her latest appearence was inspired by Gillian Anderson's role as Dana Scully in X-Files and Jodie Foster's role as Clarice Starling from The Silence of the Lambs, and her backstory change from a tutor to a woman with ambiguous intentions.
