Tormented Fathers is a third-person psychological horror game where the player takes control of Rosemary Reed as she explores Felton Villa, an old family manor in a fictional Italian town CervoScuro, where she searches for clues to solve the overarching mystery behind the disappearance of Celeste Felton, while trying time escape the clutches of the relentless killers.

"Stalkers" are the slasher villain-type enemies primarily inspired by the Scissorman from the classic horror series Clock Tower but with a modern approach presented in games like Outlast, The Last of Us and Hello Neighbor. Unlike its spiritual predecessor, Remothered is played through the over-the-shoulder perspective and the stalkers' appearances are not scripted as each has their own routine around the manor during the player's exploration time, similarly to Haunting Ground, where the players have to solve puzzles while avoiding the stalkers' attention.

While stealth remains the preferable method of defense against the stalkers, the game will not be over if Rosemary is discovered, so the players are free to choose amongst various different strategies, including trying to fight off the attackers directly. Combat, however, is featured only as an optional mechanic as the resources are limited and the equipped tools can only be used as defense items.

Quick Time events

A particular quick-time event will activate while holding the doors from stalkers' advance

Multiple items can be found within the manor to distract or even temporarily incapacitate the stalker, such as alarm clocks, vases, blunt objects and more, but the stalker will never die. If the stalkers repeatedly hit the player, Rosemary becomes seriously injured and, once caught by the stalker, goes into a defense mode where she can use a quick defense item (a QDI) during which time the player will need to complete a quick-time event to escape the killer's grasp.

Sound is one of the main factors in the game as they can be used as distractions, but players must be aware that stalkers can hear footsteps around the manor and they can track the player down.
